Easter is a celebration that coincides with Spring and the rebirth of nature. Likewise, to Persian Nowruz, people paint and hunt eggs during the ceremony and prepare family meals to precede the 40 days of lent.
The Armenians of Iran traditionally fast from the 40 days before Easter to avoid eating animal products. On the final Thursday evening before Easter, they go to Church, and the Church’s priest washes the feet of 12 adolescents as a symbol of the disciples.
