We have you covered for a huge bank holiday get-together or an outfit for the morning after. Whether you're hosting in the garden or dancing in the streets, it's a chance to get dressed up.
Nothing kicks the summer off like a bank holiday in May. Whether the weather is grey or bright, something about a three-day weekend acts as a seasonal reset. It gives you the irresistible desire to trade your comfortable cashmere garments for something colourful and flowy.
This year, we're embracing print dresses, occasion-worthy clutch purses, and a blast of colour because bank holidays are ten to the penny. It's all about versatile separates and a contemporary spin on florals for folks with places to go (wedding season awaits!). Think of under-the-arm clutch bags, print gowns or wide-leg palazzo-style slacks worn with a blazer and chic low shoes. Outfits perfect for; beer gardens, picnics in a royal park, a regal afternoon tea, cruising down the Thames or a public street party — are long-weekend essentials.
You don't need to spend your money on a tacky minidress in the style of Geri Halliwell or a comically over-the-top Union flag costume. However, dressing that references the Coronation's theme will cheer you up and make you feel festively attired on the day.
When will the King's Coronation take place?
King Charles III's Coronation will occur on Saturday, 6 May 2023, at Westminster Abbey in London. The King and Camilla, the Queen Consort, will both be crowned at the ceremony. Here is what we know so far about the Operation Golden Orb plans.
What Time is the King's Coronation?
The King's procession is expected to go underway at Westminster Abbey just before the ceremony's scheduled start time of 11:00.
What is a Coronation?
The ritual incorporates elements of the UK's uncodified constitution, theatre, and religion. When King Edward VII was crowned in 1902, the Coronation became modern. A state procession moves from Buckingham Palace to the Abbey, followed by a second procession within the building, the Recognition, the Anointing, the Coronation Oath, the Homage and ultimately, a third procession that moves from the Abbey back to the Palace.
Concert Line-Up for the King's Coronation
Although the complete lineup has yet to be confirmed, there are rumours that Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and the Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli will perform.
Is there a Coronation dress code?
This Coronation will be more like Casual Friday with King Charles' modernized-monarchy motif; than Queen Elizabeth II's, who was crowned with a lot of glitz and tiaras. The world has changed so much since the Queen's Coronation 70 years ago, and it makes sense for Charles to put his stamp on it. House of Lords members must wear business clothing or traditional robes during the opening of Parliament instead of the ceremonial coronation crimson velvet-'n'-ermine robes and coronets (silver circlets with ermine trim and velvet linings). Regular visitors will don "day dress" if they are ladies, or a morning coat, a suit, or a military uniform if they are men.
Coronation Party Ideas - fit for a King (or Queen)
Royal Decorations:
With lavish décor, you can turn your room into a palace fit for a king or QueenQueen. To create an opulent ambience:
- Choose rich hues like gold, scarlet, and royal blue.
- Display bunting, flags, and banners with the nation's colours or a regal emblem.
- Think of hanging materials like velvet or satin from the ceiling or adding velvet throws or pillows to seating spaces.
Set the table:
By setting the table with beautiful china, crystal glassware and polished cutlery, you can create a sophisticated dining experience. For an extra touch of refinement, use cloth tablecloths and napkins. Your centrepiece can be a small replica of a royal crown, tall candelabras, fresh flowers, or both.
Traditional British fare:
A lavish buffet of traditional British fare is the ideal way to wow your guests during a royal coronation viewing party. Traditional meals ranging from decadent desserts to savoury treats will make your occasion a memorable culinary experience.
Dress for the occasion:
To fully embody the spirit of the occasion, encourage your guests to dress to the nines. To make the celebration more exciting, include royal-themed decorations like tiaras, crowns, and faux-fur stoles.
There's a reasonable probability that many Coronation parties will go outside if the weather permits. But this is still Britain, so you had better be ready.
